Kanguva is a grand period action-fantasy film that effectively showcases Suriya's remarkable performance in dual roles, combined with strong visuals and emotional storytelling. The plot spans centuries, weaving battles, clan rivalries, and themes of loyalty and sacrifice. Check out the film's review here.
Story:
Francis (Suriya) is a bounty hunter who will act as a police informant along with his ex-girlfriend (Disha Patani). One day, they accidentally bump into a boy from his past life. The movie then heads to a period dating back several centuries. Who is Kanguva? What is the connection with the boy? What happens in the end? Forms the story of the film.
Performances:
Suriya stands out in both roles, delivering intense and emotional scenes, particularly as the heroic Kanguva. Disha Patani shines glamorously, while Bobby Deol adds depth as an antagonist. Karthi?s cameo and other supporting roles contribute to the story. Most of the actors are not familiar with Telugu audiences, and they hardly make any impression.
Technical Aspects:
Vetri Palaniswami's cinematography enhances the period setting, while Nishad Yusuf's editing is inconsistent. Devi Sri Prasad's music and background score failed to leave any impression. The production values are lavish and the VFX work is not impressive in some scenes. Technically, the film is good only in parts.
Review:
The film excels in its grand, well-executed battle sequences, particularly underwater scenes and climactic moments. Some scenes, especially outside of the action set pieces, lag in pacing and feel routine, which dampens the overall impact. The love story between Suriya and Disha Patani lacks depth and disrupts the flow of the main plot. While the film has intense moments, the emotional aspects feel overemphasized at times, hindering the pace. Kanguva impresses with its epic scale, powerful lead performances, and production quality. But, it fails to deliver a visual spectacle that will satisfy Suriya?s fans and action movie enthusiasts. However, a more engaging screenplay and tighter pacing could have elevated it further. The film succeeds in its ambitious vision but may feel uneven in parts. Overall, it?s a huge disappointment.
