Plot:
Devara (NTR) stands as a protector of a village. Bhaira (Saif Ali Khan), the leader of another village, engages in looting ships with the help of Devara and other villages. Devara has a fallout with Bhaira as tensions rise, leading to dramatic developments. The film traces Devara's disappearance and explores the fears of his son, Vara (also played by NTR). The plot unravels how Vara, Thangam (Janhvi Kapoor), and Devara's past are intertwined and how Vara ultimately seeks to fulfill his father's legacy.
Performances:
NTR shines in his dual roles as Devara and Vara. His portrayal of these contrasting characters is the film's biggest asset. The intensity, emotions, and power he brings to the screen are mesmerizing. Janhvi Kapoor, making her Telugu debut fails to impress with her role as Thangam. Saif Ali Khan?s portrayal of the antagonist, Bhaira, adds depth to the story. But the portrayal is too routine lacking any freshness. Srikanth, Prakash Raj, and Shruti Marathe deliver solid performances that enhance the narrative.
Technical Aspects:
Cinematographer R. Rathnavelu's work is outstanding. The film is visually grand, with stunning shots of the sea, underwater sequences, and well-crafted action scenes. Anirudh Ravichander?s music complements the movie's tone, with songs fitting seamlessly into the narrative. His background score is especially noteworthy. Sreekar Prasad?s editing is smooth, though certain slow-paced scenes could have been trimmed for a tighter narrative. The film benefits from grand production values, with no compromises made in delivering stunning visuals and well-executed action sequences.
Review:
The emotional core of the story is one of its strengths. The film's action scenes, particularly the underwater sequences in the pre-climax and climax, are well-executed. The underwater shark sequences and sea-based combat are visually stunning and add a thrilling dimension to the movie. While the film is strong in key sequences, some portions, particularly in the second half, feel slow. The romantic subplot between Vara (NTR) and Thangam (Janhvi Kapoor) feels underdeveloped. The chemistry between the characters lacks the depth needed to make it engaging. Koratala Siva handles the emotional and action elements well. However, the slow pace in certain scenes and a lack of engagement in some portions prevent the film from reaching its full potential. On the whole, Devara is a visual spectacle with powerful performances, especially by NTR in dual roles.
Plus Points:
NTR
Music & BGM
Action Sequences
Visuals
Minus Points:
Pace Issues
Lack of Emotional Depth
Final Verdict: Devara is High-Intense Action Drama!
