Thalapathy Vijay teamed up with director Venkat Prabhu for the last but one film in his career. Titled The Goat, the film was released today. Check out the film review here.
Plot:
Gandhi (Vijay), who works covertly for India's special anti-terrorist squad, goes to Kenya, where he crosses paths with the infamous mafia don Menon (Mike Mohan). After this, Gandhi embarks on another mission, accompanied by his wife Anu (Sneha) and son Jeevan. A dramatic turn of events unfolds, leading to a strained father-son relationship. The movie traces how Jeevan (Junior Vijay) grows up to become Gandhi's adversary. How did Gandhi cope with it? What conflicts did Gandhi face? What happens in the end? Forms the story of the film.
Performances:
Thalapathy Vijay is one of the big talents who contributed to the film. His charisma and trademark swagger are ever-present, but this time, he also has a negative shade. It is Vijay's one-man show altogether. The other actors, like Sneha and Meenakshi Chaudhary, are impressive in their roles. But there is nothing great or special about their performances. The supporting cast, like Prabhudeva, Jayam Ravi, and Prashant, all fit their roles well. The rest of the cast made their presence felt. Trisha and Sivakarthikeyan made special cameos in the film.
Technical Aspects:
The VFX is the first thing to talk about. Vijay?s de-aging scenes are well-executed and visually impressive; some of the film?s VFX work feels weak, particularly in crucial scenes. This inconsistency detracts from the overall experience. Yuvan Shankar Raja?s background score helps elevate some scenes, though the songs themselves are average. The cinematography is commendable, capturing the high-energy action sequences well. The film could have benefited from tighter editing. Several scenes feel unnecessarily long, contributing to the film?s bloated runtime.
Review:
Director Venkat Prabhu, known for his innovative films, delivers a somewhat lackluster effort here. Fans expecting something new and creative from him will be disappointed. It is already known that the film is loosely inspired by the Hollywood film Gemini Man. There are no major hooks in the plot, which disrupts the screenplay. The film also lacks logic in many scenes. The film's pace is slow in the first half, and the second half picks up a bit. The major highlight of the film is its climax sequence. The film is tailored for Vijay's fans, who will likely enjoy seeing their favorite star in a different, darker role. While the movie has its moments?especially in the second half and during the climax?the stretched runtime, unoriginal plot, and predictable screenplay weigh it down.
Plus Points:
Vijay's performance
BGM
Visuals
Minus Points:
Predictable Plot
Week Screenplay
Final Verdict: A Mixed Bags for Vijay's Fans..
