Hero Vishal is no new to the Telugu audience. Hailing from the Telugu states itself, this Tamizh hero has managed to gain a huge market in Telugu as well and now, he is coming up with his new project 'Laatti'. Let's dive into the film.
Story :
Muruganandam is an honest, sincere, loyal constable who always prioritises his duties with utmost sincerity. He is a family man, with a wife Kavitha and a 10-year-old school-attending son. With the crime rates soaring, Vishal gets himself caught in a viral situation, while his son is amongst the terrifying gang. How he saves himself & his son without compromising his honesty is the rest of the plot.
Performances:
Needless to say, this is a tailored role for Vishal. He is known for playing such badass action roles and he nails it here too. As a constable, Vishal is believable and gives out a subtle performance too.
Even in his fights, we are reminded that he is a constable. Although Sunaina has less screen time, she served the purpose. Prabhu, Munishkanth, Thalaivasal Vijay and Misha Ghoshal also gave decent performances.
Technical aspects:
Speaking about the technical aspects, the Cinematography by Balasubramaniam & Balakrishna Thota is fine but doesn't stand out. We could see colourful frames but neither appealing nor involving. Music by Yuvan Shankar Raja is also very much flat.
The music comes accordingly with the scene but not for the plot or the characters. Editing could have been better and the director Vinod, who is a debutant, fails to extrapolate his ideas accurately onto the screen.
Review:
'Laatti' is a complete pot-boiler commercial entertainer right from the beginning. Even the makers promoted the film to be no unique or off-beat film but this is good & bad at the same time as the audience knows what they are in for. They wouldn't be expecting anything new but they are looking for something fresh.
That's where the film couldn't stand on itself. The film flows in a very familiar, routine, well-known narrative and this bored the audience, making them disconnect with the film and characters
The first half is a flat-routine-no new scene and it's very hard to stick to the screen. Almost all of the scenes are very much familiar to everyone.
While the second half has the conflict along with a few well-designed & properly made action sequences, the film just couldn't survive with them alone. Even their impact wears off with the progress of the film
Plus Points:
Vishal Performace
Action Sequences
Minus Points:
Plot
Music
Runtime
Verdict:
The audience has been subjected to the much-varied cinema, but films like 'K.G.F' proves that the commercial taste is still very much alive. Even a little unique or innovative approach could have done magic but unfortunately 'Laatti' fails at every aspect
One-Line Review:
A routine-Masala film with not much masala in it
