Jathi Ratnalu fame Anudeep KV came up with his latest outing First Day First Show. He didn't direct the project but penned the story and screenplay. The film also marks the comeback of the iconic production house, Poornodaya Pictures. Here is the review of it.
Story:
The story is set in the early 2000s. Srinivas (Srikanth Reddy) is a die-hard fan of Pawan Kalyan. He falls for his college mate Sanchita (Sanchita Bashu). One day, Sanchita asks Srinivas to get tickets for the first day first show of Pawan's new film Kushi. The odds Srikanth face to get the tickets and whether he was able to get them or not, form the main plot of the movie.
Performances:
Debutants Srikanth and Sanchita are suited for their roles but their characters are horribly written. Neither of their performances is top-notch to make you sit throughout the runtime. Vennela Kishore manages to generate a few laughs. He did well in the first half but his role becomes irritating in the second half. Tanikella Bharani, Srinivas Reddy and Mahesh Achanta did justice to their roles but have nothing great to offer. Anudeep's cameo is ignorable.
Technical Aspects:
Anudeep came up with a wafer-thin storyline for this movie. He just weaved the entire film around a single point. The plot point is too minimal to make a two-hour film. Anudeep filled the film with unnecessary characters and scenes. He tried to bring nostalgic vibes and showcase the craze of Pawan but they don't help the film in becoming a watchable venture. Director duo Vamshidhar Goud and Lakshminarayana failed to come up with an entertaining outing.
The music by Radhan is the only bearable part of this movie. he did complete justice to his job. The cinematography is decent. The budget constraints can be seen and thus, the production values are okay. The editing is lacklustre.
Review:
Jathi Ratnalu worked well primarily because of Naveen Polishetty and the other lead cast members' performances. First Day First Show lacks such actors who can pull off lame jokes and entertain the audience. The trailer itself showcases the core plot of the film and once you enter the theatres, you are bombarded with non-sensical sequences and over-the-top comedy scenes. Neither the first half nor the second half makes you laugh and instead, irritate you to the core. On the whole, First Day First Show proves to be a forgettable venture from Anudeep.
Plus Points:
Power Star references and nostalgic vibes
Minus Points:
Thin plot-line
Irritating comedy scenes
Lacklustre narration
Lack of strong performances
One Line Verdict: Complete misfire
