Rowdy Hero Vijay Deverakonda is back with his new outing Liger. Directed by Puri Jagannath, this pan-India flick was released today. Ananya Panday played the female lead in it. Here is the review of the film. Check it out
Story:
Balamani (Ramya Krishna) wants her son Liger (Vijay Deverakonda) to become a martial arts champion. To train him in the martial arts, Balamani shifts to Mumbai. Liger focuses on his career but is distracted when he falls in love with Taniya (Ananya Panday). How his love story with Taniya changed his life and how did he become an international MMA champion form the rest of the story.
Performances:
Vijay Deverakonda steals the show with his performance. Be it in bodybuilding or in stammering dialogues, Vijay scored brownie points in every aspect of his role. However, weak characterization ruined his role in the movie.
Ananya Panday got the least important role in the movie. One would wonder what is she doing in the film. Her acting is not convincing as well. Ramya Krishna's performance is good, but her role is not etched well.
Mike Tyson is completely wasted. Vishu was okay as a baddie. Chunkey Panday, Ronit Roy, Ali, and Getup Srinu did their parts well.
Technical Aspects:
In many of his interviews, writer and director Puri Jagannath said that he got ample amount of time for Liger and thus, he came up with a solid story. You would be a fool if you believe these words. Puri's earlier works are far better than Liger. The writing of the characters is half-baked, and all the scenes are very over-the-top.
Multiple music composers worked on the music of this film. None of the songs is remarkable. The background score by Sunil Kashyap is okay. Vishnu Sarma?s cinematography is decent. The production values are great, though. Editing by Junaid could have been way better.
Review:
The combination of Vijay Deverakonda and Puri Jagannath raised expectations around Liger. However, the audience would be completely disappointed once they enter the theatres. Director Puri Jagannath completely failed to deliver a solid project. The film starts off well even though it is predictable. The love track is very poorly-written and irritates the audience. The interval bang is boring as well. The second half completely falls flat. The kidnapping sequence featuring Mike Tyson is completely unnecessary. On the whole, the first half is bearable but the second half tests your patience to the core.
Plus Points:
Vijay Deverakonda
MMA fight sequences
Minus Points:
Horrible romantic track
Terrible characterizations
Over-the-top scenes and characters
Predictable screenplay
Final Verdict: 'LIGHT'er
