Young hero Raj Tarun, who is struggling to score a hit for a long time, is now back with his new outing Stand Up Rahul. Directed by Santo, this movie features Varsha Bollamma as the female lead. It has hit the screens worldwide today. Here is the review of it.
Story:
Rahul (Raj Tarun) is an aspiring stand-up comedian but he doesn't take it up as a career and works in an MNC upon his mother's request. Over a period of events, he falls in love with Shreya (Varsha Bollamma) but doesn't confess it for a long time.
He opposes the idea of marriage due to the divorce of his parents. Then, did he marry Shreya? Also, did he pursue stand up comedy as a full-time profession? To know the answers, you have to watch the film.
Performances:
Raj Tarun underwent a makeover to suit the image of an urban youngster who is into stand up comedy. The makeover was good visually but on the acting front, Tarun was a misfit. His accent played a spoilsport. His stand up comedy scenes was as bad as Pooja Hegde's scenes in Most Eligible Bachelor.
Varsha Bollamma looks bubbly but her character doesn't have much scope to perform. Murali Sharma doesn't have anything to do in the first half but he was good in the second half. Indraja was decent in the mother role. Rest others were okayish.
Technical Departments:
Director Santo came up with an old story laced up with a new point like Stand Up Comedy. He might have marketed well to the producers by saying that it is the first Telugu film based on stand up comedy audiences are not going to buy the tactic. His screenplay was very routine and has no uniqueness to offer.
Sweekar Agasthi's music has an urban touch but it doesn't create any impact on the viewers. Sreeraj Raveendran's cinematography is the big advantage for this film. His visuals brought a cool look to the movie. Editing by Raviteja Girijala was okay but he couldn't save a badly-written film.
Analysis:
You don't take much time to guess the entire story of Stand Up Rahul. You guess the proceedings and the ending by watching the first 15 minutes of the movie. The first half is very boring and irritating at places. The stand up comedy scenes were very flat and don't generate any laughs.
The second half is a bit better compared to the first half. A few scenes are well done in the latter half. But they don't make the entire film watchable. As a result, Stand Up Rahul becomes a boring outing throughout the runtime.
Plus Points:
Fresh urban setup
A few scenes in the second half
Minus Points:
Cliched Story
Badly-written comedy scenes
Emotional scenes lack depth
One Line Verdict: Boring Rahul
