After Meeku Maatrame Chepta, Vijay Deverakonda now came up with his second production venture Pushpaka Vimanam. Starring Anand Deverakonda in the lead role, this movie drew the interest of the audiences with extensive promotions and an intriguing trailer. It has hit the screens today and we bring you the review of it
Story:
Sundar (Anand Deverakonda) is a middle-class young man who works as a government teacher. He doesn't have any big ambitions in life. He gets married to Meenakshi (Geeth Saini) and it is an arranged marriage. However, Meenakshi goes missing after a few days of marriage. Still, Sundar pretends that she is at home. What happened to Meenakshi? Did she elope with someone? How does Sundar come out of all the mess? These factors form the main crux of the story.
Performances:
Anand has been choosing realistic subjects right from his first film. He seems to be an actor who depends on the story and not his acting skills. His last film Middle Class Melodies' writing was so brilliant that there was no need for Anand to showcase his acting prowess. But his acting drawbacks can be seen in this film. Anand tried his best but failed to elevate some of the key scenes in the movie. He needs to improve a lot and brush up on his acting skills in certain sectors.
Geeth Saini was okay as Meenakshi but she doesn't have much weightage in the story. Pitta Kathalu fame Saanve Megghana was lively and her screen presence is very good. She has good prospects of becoming a star if she chooses the right subjects. Sunil was decent in the role of a police officer. Seasoned actors like Naresh and Harsha Vardhan weren't used to their potential.
Technical Aspects:
Debutant director Damodara wrote this story with one hook point. The scenes should be highly engaging if the story runs on a single conflict or the subplots need to be strong either. However, the writing of Pushpaka Vimanam doesn't give us both. The director should have taken care of his writing more.
There are multiple composers for the film but none of the songs stand out. Two songs are good for one-time listening and they were pictured well. The background score by Mark K Robin is good in parts. The cinematography by Hestin Jose Joseph is decent. Raviteja Girijala's editing could have been better.
Review:
Pushpaka Vimanam had a very interesting plot line but it fails to deliver as a film. The conflict is already revealed in the trailer and the viewers will eagerly wait for it. However, we don't get to that point until the interval point of the movie.
Even in the second half, the proceedings are so dull that we can predict what happened to Meenakshi before the twist is revealed. The comedy scenes are not great either. On the whole, Pushpaka Vimanam disappoints after coming up with such an interesting storyline.
Plus Points:
Background score
Performances of the few actors
Realistic narration
Minus Points:
Lack of engaging scenes
Slow narration
Weak use of the conflict
Final Verdict: This Vimanam fails to take off
