Ram Gopal Varma uses AI to make a movie and its music

Ram Gopal Varma’s latest film Saaree, tagged with the intriguing line "Too Much Love Can Be Scary," is set to release as a pan-India movie in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, and Malayalam this November. Directed by Giri Krishna Kamal and produced by businessman Ravi Varma under ARV RV Productions, Saaree promises to push the boundaries of film and music innovation.

In a groundbreaking announcement, Varma revealed that Saaree will be the first full-length feature film to use AI-generated music. Through their newly launched music label, RGV DEN Music, in partnership with Ravi Varma, the entire soundtrack of the film, including the background score, was created using AI applications.

Varma expressed his excitement, stating, “The AI music used in Saaree marks the beginning of a revolutionary change in the music industry. Soon, human musicians, composers, lyricists, and singers will become obsolete as AI continues to evolve." He explained that AI-generated music offers numerous advantages over human-composed music, such as speed, cost-efficiency, and limitless creative options. "Unlike human creators who face scheduling conflicts and time constraints, AI generates music in seconds, without any loss in translation, and at zero cost," Varma added.

He further highlighted how AI democratizes music creation, making it accessible to anyone, from a farmer to a college student. “AI puts music creation in the hands of the common people, unlike before when only industry insiders could produce music,” said Varma. He acknowledged that while some might criticize AI for producing "bad" music, he argued that taste is subjective, and AI's purpose is to cater to the individual user's preferences.

Varma boldly predicted that AI will soon flood the world with computer-generated music, leading to the end of careers for human composers, singers, and lyricists. “In the coming days, pursuing a career in the music industry will be futile because no human can compete with AI,” he stated.

As with any technological advancement, Varma sees this shift as part of progress. “Just as the car replaced horse buggies and streaming services wiped out DVDs, AI music will reshape the industry. And someday, something else may wipe out AI,” he concluded.

Saaree promises not only to be a cinematic experience but also a glimpse into the future of music.
