Just when everything looked normal after two Covid-19 lockdowns, Indian moviegoers began to return to cinemas across most of the country. Also, Allu Arjun's latest release 'Pushpa' enjoyed a massive response all over the country and did exceptionally well in Hindi belt. But, the worries of new variant Omicron is haunting upcoming movies as few states started to impose restrictions already.
Given the jump in new COVID-19 cases, the Delhi Government imposed Yellow alert with night curfew from 10PM to 5AM - to contain the spread of virus, all movie theatres will remain shut. With this announcement, this week's big Hindi release 'Jersey' featuring Shahid Kapoor is also delayed as there is a major uncertainty. Delhi, which's considered as a major market for Hindi films, is quite important for any Bollywood biggie.
Now, these restrictions are sure to impact 'RRR' bigtime. The film, set for release on 7th January, is likely to miss around 100+ Cr share from Delhi region. As per B-town trade pundits, Rajamouli's previous Magnum Opus Baahubali-2 amassed a massive 100 Cr from Delhi market and so, makers of RRR are apparently expecting Rs 130 Cr this time. But, the COVID restrictions in Delhi has come down as a big shock to the filmmakers and they may not go back on release date because it would result in an even bigger loss. If more states in North impose similar restrictions, RRR team will definitely rethink release date.
