The elections-2019 is witnessing the entry of many film stars into direct politics. While Pawan Kalyan's Jana Sena sought the people's mandate in the recently concluded Andhra elections, few other film artists who forayed into politics are Prakash Raj, Sumalatha, Kannada hero Nikhil, Shatrughan Sinha, Jayapradha and others. Also, film actress Urmila Matondkar joined Congress and is campaigning for the party.
The latest one to join the political bandwagon is Bollywood actor Sunny Deol, who took the membership of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday. The 62-year old actor joined BJP in the presence of Union ministers Piyush Goyal and Nirmala Sitharaman'. Also, sources are indicating that Mr Deol will be fielded as BJP's candidate from Gurdaspur Lok Sabha constituency in Punjab. While joining BJP, Sunny Deol said: "I would like to work with Modi Ji like the way my Papa worked with Atal Ji."
The 62-year old actor, director and producer has received two National and 2 Filmfare awards. On the work front, he was lastly seen in a 2018 film 'Bhaiaji Superhit' and his next directorial 'Pal Pal Dil Ke Pas' is scheduled for theatrical release on 19 July 2019. Deol is very popular with films like Ghayal, Border, Jeet, Gadar and more.
