24 is an upcoming science fiction flick starring Kollywood’ talented star Suriya, Samantha and Nitya Menen in lead roles. Mozart of Madras A R Rahman composed music for this film and it directed by Vikram Kumar who gave successful Tollywood films like Manam and Ishq. Here is an iQlik exclusive audio review of the album:
The frivolous album begins with Kaalam Naa Preyasi which already got positive buzz among the music circles for its coolness and contemporary touches. Benny Dayal does a mesmerizing job for this stupendously addictive composition. Despite being a dubbed version, the lyrics are quite localized and fun to hear in this song!
Prema Parichayame is a nostalgic duet performed by Arijit Singh and soothing Chinmayi which sounds like a trip to bygone era where things were at a relaxing pace. The song doesn’t make any attempt to rush or appeal to be trendy but yet makes a lasting impression on the listener! The interludes are diced with captivating bells and string section.
The album gathers much pace with Nee Valle- a modern ARR composition effectively fused with folk lead vocals. Rahman focuses on his newest musical interest Reggae which gets a new fusion treatment this time. There is an impressive advent of Modern jazz as well. The song progresses like a free flowing river with mastery over blending. Sid Sriram, who sang the greatly popular Yaadike from Kadali delivers another winner for ARR!
Chirunavve is a classy melody performed by the melodious Haricharan and supremely talented Shasha Tirupati. The song is like a swing vacillating between carnatic classical and modern symphony – true to the theme of the film!
The inevitable sentimental touch arrives with Laalijo sung brilliantly by actress Nitya Menen herself. The unplugged acoustic guitar is the real hero of the song with its amazing timing and drizzle like strums. A.R.Rahman gives a world class definition and a transformed meaning for lullabies in South Indian films!
The surmounting tension is clearly depicted in the final theme music My Twin Brother which builds a eerie bridge between fear and hope. The ritualistic chants make sure that the song gets a native touch as well.
Verdict:
24 is a fun filled album from AR Rahman which stays true to the genre of Sci-Fi thrillers.
