'Right Musical Balance'- Guntur Talkies Audio Review

Guntur Talkies is an upcoming off beat film directed by Praveen Sattaru of Chandamama Kadhalu fame. The film has Siddu Jonnalagadda and Rashmi Gautam in lead roles and music is composed by Sricharan Pakala. Here is an iQlik exclusive audio review of the album:

The experimental album begins with Oh Suvarna- a fusion like track topped with peppy tabla  and husky vocals of Sri Vidya. The track has a folk tinge blended with swift rhythm section without compromising on the rural flavor. The interludes are laden with minimal orchestration and that’s what makes it an enjoyable listen.

The interesting flavor continues in the form of another lazy duet Nee Sontham rendered by Ambika Sashittal and Anant Srikar. The song is quite velvety in terms of contemporary riffs and modern trance flavors as well. There are various dimensions to the track which unfold steadily as it progresses gracefully. Krishna Madieneni’s sweet lyrics is a huge asset for this composition.

In contrast with melodious beginnings, Jackie is a funky theme track with 70s Jazz trumpets and loops.  Aditya Ramnath’s voice resembles Big B Amitabh Bachchan in terms of bass and the lyrics are in storytelling fashion which attempts to draw a parallel between Mumbai and Local mafia!

Guntur Talkies is a fun filled number which stays true to the title and has the right dose of quirkiness and the perfect setting for the film’s storyline. The atmosphere suddenly transforms to modern Hip-Hop which has timely doses of rural flavor as well.  Kittu Vissapragada’s lyrics add a new dimension to this experimental  track.

The grand finale occurs with Chaar Sow Bees- an R.D.Burman styled composition with energetic solo humming and live drumming. The song has multiple shades associated with it namely entertainment, action, philosophy of life and what not? In short, the track offers a fitting ending for this impressive album.

Verdict:

Guntur Talkies is a fun filled album which stays true to the film’s theme. The new composer Sricharan delivers an album which strikes a great balance between fun and classicism.
