Performances:
Heebah Patel: This newbie makes an impressive debut with her looks and acting talent.
Raj Tarun: He is not the usual hyper reactive onscreen Raj Tarun you find in this film but rather a soft spoken guy-next-door. His scores good especially in some tragic scenes.
Noel, Sudharshan Reddy & Naveen rather impress as the lead baddies with a comedy shade.
The rest of the cast did a decent job.
Analysis:
As hyped Kumari 21F is an out and out youthful film pitched on typecasting on women. Talking about mental maturity in relationships, Kumari 21F revolves around the most common misconceptions about women, love and sex.
With a commendable intention, the film has a love story with realistic characters, real life confusions that strike a chord especially with the youth. The film that starts on a serious note later sails off into main love story with intriguing lead characters and situational comedy in the first half. However the conflict intensifies in the second half and the film completely slips into a serious note. However the unusual climax might not be digestible to a major section of the audience.
With less on entertainment quotient, Kumari 21F is a conveniently knit script that tries to stay loyal to its intent. But the way the writer and director deals with mental maturity and immaturity in relationships is debatable.
In a nutshell, this Sukumar Writing scores high on intent and less on the lines of wholesome entertainment.
Merits:
- Lead performances especially that of Raj Tarun, Heebah & Noel.
- Concept and Story with intriguing characters that strike the chord.
- Engaging Narration especially first half.
- Catchy Music and Supportive background score
- Top notch Cinematography & Decent Editing.
De-merits:
- The adult content might cause some discomfort to the family audience
- Lack of routine entertainment quotient.
Music:
DSP's album is absolutely catchy and the songs are situational and picturized well. His background score was good and elevates the crucial scenes.
Verdict:
Besides being an out and out youthful film, Kumari 21F is an appreciable attempt with its genuine intent and bold content - Not a regular commercial entertainer though!
