Plot:
Shiva (Ram) is a go-getter who helps lovers get married and puts his life at stake for love and lovers and helping one such couple get married, he enters into a scuffle with the son of an egoist rowdy Boji Reddy. While Boji & gang is in scout for Shiva, he happens to see Tanu (Raashi Khanna) and instantly falls in love with him. Right exactly when Tanu has to express her love for Shiva, Abhi (Abhimanyu Singh) who also loves Tanu comes and kidnaps Tanu. She eventually falls in love with Shiva but after a series of unexpected events realises who Shiva and what his original motto in life is. What is it and how did Shiva save Tanu from the villains forms the rest of the story.
Performances:
Ram: The energetic star did whatever he does in all his films (we mean helping lovers in eloping and on the way, meet the heroine, meanwhile bash up some goons, cut some jokes with Brahmi, dance to few catchy numbers in some exotic locales with some cool outfits). He gives his best to entertain his fans but this time with attitude and punch dialogues overloaded.
Raashi Khanna: This cutie pie has upped her glam quotient and tried to impress with her egoist role in the limited space but unfortunately a poorly etched character noughts her plans.
Posani: This versatile actor plays Ram's father. His equation with Ram's character is amusing but it gets rather monotonous after a while.
Vineet Kumar: He gets a flimsy role in the film and the dubbing glitch associated with him spoils the broth.
Abhimanyu Singh: His character was a better entertainer and this promising baddie does his best.
Fish Venkat, Srinivasa Reddy, Brahmi, Prabhas Seenu, Saptagiri, Krishna Bhagvan & the Jabardast team try to entertain you but only Fish Venkat & Brahmi succeed occasionally.
Analysis:
We have seen hero characters that are homeless, aimless, hopeless and even characterless too but here is an entire film made with an aimless hero, helpless heroine, brainless villains and pointless plot.
The film that plans to run upon love rather keeps crawling on ego. The debutant director amalgamates elements from earlier commercial entertainers and the clueless narration makes the watch even more painful. His egoist characters try to chase each other through out the film and the coerced twists, unnecessary heroism and out of the world action sequences start affecting your interest levels. He has many able comedians at his service but a bland and insipid comedy worsen the case.
The first half runs on a regular formula with a characters and plot reminding you of Ready and Kick 2. With the advent of the love track, the plot that is expected to get intense and interesting drags off to a concocted interval that ends up with a regular fight sequence. And the second half wanders rather on a zigzag pattern and finally concludes on an unconvincing note. The preclimax emotional flash back lacks the quintessential feel and connectivity.
If the film is a one time watch then the credits goes to Ram's energy, Raashi's glamor & some comedy sequences of Fish Venkat, Brahmi, Posani, Prabhas Seenu.
Music:
DSP gives some good tunes that were shot in some exotic locales too but they don't go in sync with the film and hence add to the misery.
Others:
Singer Mano is seen onscreen and it was in fact a refreshing change for a routine heroine's father role.
Verdict:
Shivam is a badly made mashup of many commercial potboilers (some of Ram's earlier films too) with neither an USP or an engaging factor. You can undoubtedly find a better alternative to kill your weekend than Shivam.
