Avg. User Rating: 2.75/5
Plot:
Surya (Nikhil) a special individual suffering from a rare genetic disease called Porphyria falls in love with Sanjana (Tridha Choudhury), a tv reporter. Surya who cannot stand sunlight also suffers an inner conflict in expressing his love to Sanjana which eventually leads to a break up. So how did Surya fight takeover the conflicts and win Sanjana's love forms the rest of the plot.
Performances:
Nikhil: This promising hero has made the essential cut as an actor. The way he portrayed the inner conflict was impressive.
Tridha Choudhury: This girl charmed off with her presence and acting as well.
Thanikella Bharani & Swamy Ra Ra Satya: The duo provided the much needed comic relief, especially in the first half along with Thagubothu Ramesh, Viva Harsha
The rest of the cast including Madhoobala, Praveen, Sayaji Shinde and others put up an engaging act through out.
Direction:
Though we have a rich legacy of cinematographers turned directors, we rarely see these days. But young Karthik Gattamaneni got an early opportunity and with Nikhil’s promising image, the unique plot point or the promos/songs, Karthik was successful in pulling the crowds to the theatres. Now after he does that, his story kicked off on the much hyped and intriguing plot point of porphyria (a rare health condition where the patient cannot stand sunlight due to the failure of the secretion of certain enzymes and haemoglobin). And as usually our protagonist is the lucky one in the planet to have such a rare disease.
However, the director planted interest with a love story and gave a reason and some fun to watch this love story. And by the time we pass the first half and start feeling a positive vibe about the film, you get to realize that the hero’s problem is just not the worrying porphyria but something very trivial.
Starting off on a promising note and the story suffers an insipid treatment and narration towards the end of the story. And once you are done with the film, you just have a sense of appreciation for a unique attempt.
Merits:
- Performances of Nikhil, Tridha, Thanikella Bharani and Madhoobala
- Dialogues by Chandoo Mondeti
- Intriguing narration with a fine mix of fun.
- The comedy track between Nikhil, Thanikella Bharani, Satya & Tridha in the first half.
- Impressive Cinematography
De-Merits:
- The sluggish narration in the second half
- The lack of an intensified conflict point and the essential dramatic narration to keep the audience glued.
- The lack of commercial entertaining elements and narration might disappoint the common audience.
Music:
Music by Mahaveer was decent enough but the back ground score failed to leave an impact.
Others:
Cinematography by director Karthik Gattamaneni & art direction needs special mention.
Verdict:
Surya vs Surya is one such film which promises more and delivers less. But you can still give it a shot for Nikhil's performance and the innovative concept.
