Shankar - fondly regarded as the ‘Show Man of South Indian cinema’ has always surprised movie lovers with his magnanimous films.
He kept breaking the mold yet become commercially successful with each film, which is in fact a unique feat possible only to Shankar. However, he faced few bitter lips for his latest outing I movie. But, the craze and credibility of Shankar remains unblemished.
Chennai sources reveal that Shankar is gearing up for a sequel to his super hit film Endhiran (Robo in Telugu). But several doubts are rising over this most hyped project. Though there are speculations that Superstar Rajinikanth has already given a nod for this project. But practically Endhiran 2 will be around a two year project. So given Superstar’s health and other practical issues, this is a big concern.
Now, some reports say that trials are already on to rope in Aishwarya Rai Bachchan again but given her current commitments (Jazbaa directed by Sanjay Gupta and yet another untitled project), Aish seems to have quite a few on her table.
Rajini might push the envelope and Aish might adjust her dates but the biggest concern is about the producers. Industry onlookers opine that Rajinikanth’s earlier films (Kochadaiiyaan & Lingaa) have incurred losses to the producers and even Shankar’s I movie has not managed to mint huge profits. And moreover, Karunanidhi is no more in power in Tamil Nadu to support Sun Pictures that produced Endhiran.
So given all these factors, can Shankar’s dream project Endhiran 2 materialize? Well, that’s for time to decide.
