Oscars – the highest degree of appreciation we know. Oscars are in fact the lifetime dream for many artists (including our Lakshmi Manchu), makers and as a matter of fact, for any creative cap in the world of cinema!
Amidst such aspirations, the nominations for the much awaited 87th Academy awards are announced! In the pool of English films released in 2014, The Grand Budapest Hotel and Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) movies have topped the Nominations list in the 2015 Oscars with 9 nominations each.
Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), the American black comedy directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarrittu featuring Michael Keaton, Edward Norton, Emma Stone et al has won nominations in Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Cinematography, Best Direction, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing and Best Original Song categories.
While The Grand Budapest Hotel, yet another comedy film directed by Wes Anderson featuring Ralph Fiennes, Bill Murray Saoirse Ronan and others won nominations in Best Picture, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Direction, Best Editing, Best Makeup & Hairstyling, Best Music, Best Production Design and Best Original Song categories.
On the other hand, the much anticipated film Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar has won nominations in just 5 categories – Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing, Best Production Design and Best Music.
Meanwhile, Oscar Nominations this year have experienced a backlash like never before, for the lack of diversity in the nominees. This year’s nominations are more white and have more male than they had been in previous years, according to the critics’ version. However, the first ever Black President of the Academy Cheryl Boone Isaacs has turned down these allegations.
