Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran recently faced a setback at the box office with Bade Miyan Chote Miyan after his successes with Salaar and The GOAT Life. Nearly four months after its theatrical release The GOAT Life is set to premiere on Netflix. Usually movies make their way to OTT platforms about eight weeks after their theatrical debut but this film took over four months for reasons that are not clear.

The GOAT Life which took 16 years to finally reach theaters, will be available on Netflix on July 19. It will be released in five languages: Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi. Netflix India announced this on Instagram describing the movie as a story of courage, hope and survival. It remains to be seen if the OTT audience will react as positively as the theatrical audience. Though the film did not perform well in Telugu, it was successful in Malayalam. Despite competition from new releases The GOAT Life earned over 140 crores worldwide.

The film is based on Aadujeevitham which is a bestselling Malayalam novel by Benyamin. Aadujeevitham tells the harrowing story of Najeeb who is a Malayali migrant worker who falls prey to the false promises of employment in Saudi Arabia. Najeeb's dreams of a better future are crushed when he is forced into servitude as a goatherd facing immense suffering and exploitation. Cut off from his homeland and loved ones Najeeb endures severe physical and emotional challenges struggling to retain his humanity amidst relentless cruelty. The novel highlights the dark side of migrant labor exposing the systemic injustices and exploitation faced by many seeking better livelihoods abroad.

Prithviraj Sukumaran stars as Najeeb in The GOAT Life directed by Blessy. Amala Paul joins the cast as the female lead marking her first collaboration with Prithviraj and Blessy. Produced by Jimmy Jean-Louis, Steve Adams and Blessy the movie is distributed by Prithviraj Productions. A.R. Rahman provides the musical score and Resul Pookutty handles the sound design.
