There are a lot of talented actors in the film industry who want to test their luck in cinema. Recently, many have been looking at a career down South. Amika Shail is one of them. She is an Indian singer-turned-actress known for her works in Hindi cinema. She shot to fame with many projects, especially the character of Vayu Pari in Balveer Returns. She also acted in the Mirzapur web series. Now, the actress is venturing into the South with a Malayalam film. We chatted with her about her career and life in general. Here are some interesting excerpts from our chat.
Tell us about how you entered acting from singing!
From my childhood, I have been more into singing but not acting. I am a trained singer too. I never thought of getting into acting. I have auditioned for a lot of singing reality shows. When I shifted to Mumbai, I got my first opportunity as a singer. Then, I got an opportunity in TV, and eventually, I got a lot of acting offers.
Are you debuting in Malayalam?
One day, I came across an opportunity for an item song in the Malayalam film Nobody. It's a proper item song like Oo Antava and Arabic Kuthu. We shot it in Bangalore.
Have you been ambitious about making your debut in the South?
Yes. I admire South industry a lot. There is a huge craze around South in Bollywood. With RRR, Pushpa, and other releases, every Bollywood actor is aspiring to act in the South.
What are you most passionate about. Is it singing or acting?
I have been singing since my childhood. I never dreamt of being an actor. But, I do not want to compare both. I am doing both singing and acting these days.
Who supports you the most in your journey?
My parents have been very supportive since my childhood. Without their support, I am no one. They are my strength, power, and energy.
Who is your favorite star in the South?
Prabhas. I became a big fan of him after Baahubali.
Did you receive any offers from Telugu so far?
There are a couple of opportunities I have in hand right now from South. Nothing is finalized yet.
Have you watched South films in the past?
I always watch South films when they are dubbed in Hindi.
What is your dream role?
I would love to be in an action film, playing a superwoman role, where I could get to fight and jump around.
What are your upcoming projects?
There are currently three upcoming films, two music videos, and a web series in my hand.
