Superstar Rajinikanth is one of the stalwarts in the Indian film industry. The actor enjoys a huge fan base all over the nation. Now, the central government of India announced the Dadasaheb Phalke award to Superstar Rajinikanth for his services to the film industry over the decades. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India’s highest recognition in the field of cinema and the 51st award will be presented to south superstar Rajinikanth.

Union minister for Information & Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar has announced the same on social media. "Happy to announce #Dadasaheb Phalke award for 2019 to one of the greatest actors in history of Indian cinema Rajnikant ji. His contribution as actor, producer and screenwriter has been iconic." posted the minister on social media.

Singer Asha Bhosle, Mohanlal, Subash Ghai, Shankar Mahadevan and Biswajeet Chatarjee are the jury members.
