Director Teja made his comeback to the success with the film Nene Raju Nene Mantri. The director did Sita but it did not do well at the box-office. Teja announced two projects, one with Rana and one with Gopichand. It looks like there is a delay in taking the two projects forward. Teja is currently working on Alimelumanga Venkataramana that he planned with Gopichand. There are reports that Gopichand is not going to be a part of this project.

Teja roped in Taapsee Pannu to play Alimelumanga in the film. Keerthy Suresh, Kajal Aggarwal, Anushka Shetty and others came into consideration for the role but finally, the film unit locked Taapsee for the role. Teja has now decided to drive the project in pan-India path. He wants to get a Bollywood hero on board who can attract the South and North audiences.
