2.0: Biggest Cost Failure

Super Star Rajinikanth and ace director Shankar’s high profile sci-fi thriller 2.0, sequel for their blockbuster Robot, completed two weeks at the box office, after releasing amidst huge expectations turning out to be Asia’s most expensive film.

In the two weeks, the film collected a gross of Rs 563crs across the world. The film will soon break Baahubali-The Beginning full run collection of Rs 570 crs gross. What is surprising is though the film got a mixed talk at the box office, it’s Hindi version is doing good in North compared to South. The film collecting Rs 86crs distributor share and is running in profits. However, the film’s Telugu and Tamil versions are yet to reach the breakeven.

2.0 worldwide theatrical rights were sold for around Rs 370crs and the film in its two weeks collected Rs 275crs distribution share. The film is yet to recover more than 25% of its investment to be termed as an overall hit. 2.0 starred Rajinikanth, Amy Jackson and Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar in lead roles and its high-end graphics and world-class VFX became the talking point among movie lovers. 

Many felt the film though ok with regards to its content, the makers invested huge amounts which are now becoming difficult to recover.
