The first look of Nithya Menen as Jayalalitha, in the biopic of the late actor-turned-politician, was unveiled on December 5, as it was the 2nd death anniversary of the ‘Amma’. Titled The Iron Lady, the film is being directed by Priyadarshini, a former associate of director Mysskin.
In the picture, Nithya looks very much like Jayalalitha during the beginning of her political career. Though the title of the film was revealed last year, the first look was revealed on Wednesday. It was also said that Varalaxmi Sarathkumar was playing the role of Jayalalitha and even director AR Murugadoss congratulated her on Twitter too.
However, it was later confirmed that Nithya would be doing the title role. Well, it is now rumoured that Varalaxmi will be playing the role of Sasikala, the close friend of the late chief minister. The makers are currently working on the pre-production of the film as Nithya is also busy with a couple more projects in Malayalam and Telugu too. The film might release on February 24, on the birthday of Jayalalitha.
Director Priyadarshini has said that she feels very proud to be directing the film on the Iron Lady who is still alive in million hearts even now. “We consider this as our duty and tribute to the lady who lived an exceptional life,” she said. The film will release in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada languages.
