The opening day box-office record of Baahubali-2 is very safe and looks unbreakable in near future. The two highly anticipated movies of the season – Thugs of Hindustan and 2 Point 0- have failed to rewrite the first-day record of SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus which yielded 100 Crore on day-1.
Superstar Rajinikanth’s 2 Point 0, released on 29th November, opened to Rs 70 Crore collection on Thursday. Though this is the biggest in Rajinikanth’s career, 2Point0 has failed to break the opening-day record of Baahubali-2 despite getting a monstrous release in more than 10,000 screens worldwide. While the Hindi version of 2.0, also featuring Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson in lead roles, collected Rs 23 Crore, the Telugu version of the film made Rs 18.2 Crore in AP and Telangana states.
Though the trade is cheerful, it’s not quite matching the positive mouth talk spread by the first-day viewers. However, it is too early to decide the fate of the film and its performance on Friday, Saturday and Sunday will decide its direction at the box-office. In Chennai, 2.0 fetched 2.64 Crore and when it comes to Karnataka and Kerala, the film collected Rs 8.25 Crore and 4.15 Crore respectively. The 3D film did a decent business in overseas but could not compete with Baahubali’s second part in any way.
Before the release of Rajinikanth’s 2.0, movie buffs expected it to dethrone the Baahubali-2 at the box-office but it has received a below-expectation start and multiple postponements, release on working day could be a couple of major reasons for that. However, fans of Superstar are hopeful that the film will have a long run with packed houses in the coming weeks.
