As much as we ought to feel proud that India is emerging as a superpower and is already the choicest destination for IT and other industries, a closer look would also reveal another side to this great nation. There are certain elements which still dominate the whole functioning of this system and unfortunately they are exploited and enriched to the fullest by the rulers for their vested interests.
The most sought after choice for them is the caste card. Today, the caste feeling runs quite deep though not expressed openly. And in a creative field like cinema, getting caste into the picture is something delicate. Anyhow, a discussion on caste titles has gone viral. The noted Facebook film critic cum director Mahesh Kathi mentioned that as much as he would like to see titles like ‘Narasimha Naidu’ ‘Samarasimha Reddy’ he would also like to see titles like ‘Krishna Maadiga’ ‘Mala Ramudu’.
Responding to that, the noted lyricist Sirasri gave his point of view. As per his perspective, among the many castes that exist in the Telugu states, it is the Naidu and Reddy castes which have cruised along with success and created a huge empire of their own across different fields right from education to pharma to politics to industries. That way, even the people have accepted titles with their names because it reflects power and success.
Akin to that, Sirasri also mentioned that if any individual from any community can get into that kind of league and success and the percentage of that community increases on these parameters, it would not be a surprise to see such titles as well. Bottomline is, more than the caste, it has to do with the credentials of success and achievements of a particular community which determine titles and their acceptability.
