While a lot is being spoken about how Indian cinema has evolved in the last decade and half and how it is becoming competent to make its mark at a global level, the statistics are proving otherwise. Well, Indian films are not even in the world’s top 50 grossers.
The first place still belongs to Avatar which came in 2009 while the second has gone to Titanic which came way back in 1997. The third position is taken by Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Coming to the end of the list, the 48th spot is Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, 49th is Ice Age: Continental Drift and 50th is The Secret Life Of Pets.
Coming to Indian movies, Dangal is at the top with 1823 crores followed by Baahubali with 1652 crores. Apparently, The Secret Life Of Pets stands at USD 875,475,937 which is approximately 5690 crores. It goes to show how ahead Hollywood is when compared to Indian cinema.
