You might be wondering as to why we should bother when the neighbouring Kollywood circuit is in some tension. Well, there is a good reason for us to focus our attention in that region because even we would also be getting affected by it very soon.
This has to do with the upcoming GST bill which has been implemented by the central government. Due to that, the GST for entertainment industry has shot up to a whopping 28%. This comes like a death blow to the Kollywood folks who haven’t paid a single rupee all this while.
It is known that if you make a Tamil film with a Tamil title and get a clean U certificate you didn’t have to pay a penny as entertainment tax. However, all that will change post GST. Though Kollywood folks are planning some Dharna they know well that it would be futile hence the tension. Wonder how Tollywood is receiving this.
