For a long time it has been witnessed that many north Indians considered every south Indian as a ‘Madrasi’ (a person from Madras) and even today some of them carry that notion. However, few stalwarts in Telugu broke that jinx and restored our identity.
First in that list is the great N T Rama Rao and his initiatives as a film star and a political leader brought a drastic change. Eventually it was for the Tollywood folks to take the mantle. For sometime, it was Nagesh Kukunoor who is still a celebrated filmmaker.
Among the current names, the likes of Kala Tapasvi K Viswanath, the tough taskmaster S S Rajamouli, the towering hunk Daggubati Rana, the ace shuttlers Pullela Gopichand and P V Sindhu have brought a lot of attention towards the Telugu people. They have become the pride of every Telugu person.
