The term white elephant usually refers to ‘Airavatha’ the vehicle of Lord Indra in the Hindu Mythology. It is used as a metaphor for something which is excessively expensive and beyond affordability. One car has become a white elephant for a girl.
She is none other than the noted gymnast Dipa Karmakar who grabbed attention in the recently held Rio Olympics. Dipa got a swanky BMW as a gift from master blaster Sachin Tendulkar and now she has decided to return it for some valid reasons.
Apparently, the car is finding it very tough to ply on the roads of Agartala which are filled with potholes and pits. Secondly, there is no BMW service center in that area. Buzz is that Chamundeswarinath who coordinated this gifting has now agreed to replace it with the car’s cost and put the money in Dipa’s account.
