There is no doubt that entertainment is key for wooing the Indian audience but at the same time, they are also particular about another component, that is content. Even the biggest of movies with the best of stars flunk when they don’t have the apt content.
As for those movies which compete at an international level, the selectors give total priority to content than anything else. The value is only for substance and not star power. If it is made with right content, the film works big time at the box office.
Not stopping at that, it can also go to compete for the prestigious Oscars. Right now, one Tamil movie has done that. It is Visaranai directed by the national award winner Vetrimaaran and it revolves around the brutal torture that happens in police stations.
