Every immigrantalways has one significant life story based on an experience that happened back home. For Los Angeles based filmmaker Aparna Malladi that is a young woman’s coming of age story set in Hyderabad. The film based on that story is The Anushree Experiments, which is due for release April 1st, 2016.
A chemical engineering graduate from Osmania University, Malladi moved to the United States to do her masters. Shortly after, while working for a biotech company in Berkeley, she discovered and learnt filmmaking at Film Arts Foundation in San Francisco. With a small grant from the foundation she made the award winning short film titled Nupur(Ankle Bracelets) and later an award winning first feature film titled Mitsein which had it’s international debut at MAMI in Mumbai.
Aparna Malladi moved to Los Angeles in 1993 and studied direction under renowned director & teacher Milton Katselas at the prestigious Beverly Hills Playhouse. She also studied screenwriting at the Writers Bootcamp in Santa Monica. Presently she teaches screenwriting and cinematic language at Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University and enjoys watching students evolve into powerful audio/ visual storytellers who will take the helm the Telugu film industry.
