Banner: Sri Satya Sai Arts
Music: Bheems Cecireleo
Cinematographer: Soundarajan
Editor: Gautham Raju
Producer: K K Radha Mohan
Writer-Director: Sampath Nandi
Tagline: Tiger Roars but later Snores – A Mass Masala Revenge Drama.
Plot:
Aakash Narayan (Raviteja) is a happy go-lucky gutsy yet jobless young man in a village. Aakash who doesn't mind repeated taunting from his friends and family is humiliated and rejected by a girl one day for not being famous in any way. Aakash who takes this as a challenge wants to become famous by any cost and hits a MLA in a public meeting. This incident veers Aakash's life and of Shraddha (Raashi Khanna) and Meera (Tamannaah) too. What actually happened and how did Aakash accomplish his secret mission and avenge his father’s death forms the plot.
Performances:
Raviteja: The Mass Maharaj was uber cool, stylish yet a cracker in his title role of ‘Bengal Tiger’. He was flawless with his energy and entertainment.
Raashi Khanna & Tamannaah: Both the gorgeous ladies were smoking hot in the film. Tamannaah’s Choopulatho Deepala song and Raashi’s glamor is a feast for this mass masala film.
Boman Irani: This able actor steps in the shoes of a typical routine Telugu villain yet matches up to Mass Maharaja’s energy in his own style.
Rao Ramesh: Just for a change, this exceptional actor is seen in the role of a politician with a ‘Puttur’ accent.
30yrs Industry Prithvi: He is a key asset of the film and indeed stole the show especially in the first half.
Posani: This versatile actor as ‘Sastry’ in the company of Prithvi & Raviteja entertains to the core.
Brahmanandam: The star comedian flashed as 'Amalapaul' for a couple of minutes but failed to impress.
The rest of the cast including Sayaji Shinde, Shakala Shankar, Satyam Rajesh and others play their part in this mass masala revenge drama.
Analysis:
Mass Maharaja Raviteja’s fans are waiting for a perfect mass masala entertainer and Sampath Nandi who seems to have caught the pulse pitched in a decent commercial potboiler that can quench their thirst.
Now if you are assuming high and mighty of the film, let us tell you this is an age old revenge drama. Our commercial hero tactically enters into the villain’s life to avenge his father’s murder. But a slightly refreshing treatment is what makes the difference. The pacy screenplay with occasional commercial highs, Raviteja’s energy and the comedy quotient accompanied by glamor quotient makes it a safer bet.
The first half was a riot with Prithvi, Raviteja & Posani stealing the show. The pre-interval episode is gripping enough to keep you waited for the second half. However the second half doesn’t measure up to the expectations. The enticing songs, compulsive comedy track of Brahmi and on top of it, the flashback placement dilutes the excitement and the proceedings take the usual predictable way.
On the brighter side, Sampath Nandi’s subtle yet punchy dialogues on Powerstar Pawan Kalyan, Prithvi’s track with Attarintiki Daredi parody dialogues were amusing. On the other hand, Posani’s Thammudu parody track was bland.
In a nutshell, the first half scores over the second half.
Merits:
- Performances of Raviteja and other lead cast.
- Tamannaah & Raashi Khanna’s glamor.
- Prithvi and Posani’s comedy.
- Music & Cinematography.
- Sampath’s dialogues and engaging screenplay.
De-Merits:
- Bland and predictable Second Half.
Music:
Bheems Ceciroleo gave a good commercial album with couple of chartbusters and well picturized too. The back ground score has indeed added value.
Others:
The much awaited Choopulatho Deepala song was indeed a feast for the fans.
Verdict:
Bengal Tiger is a one-time watch mass masala revenge drama that Mass Maharaja fans would enjoy. For the rest you have Prithvi’s comedy, two glamorous heroines and of course, the Mass Maharaja Raviteja at your service.
