Maruthi is one unique director who made small budget cinema get new dimensions. After watching Ee Rojullo, people were fascinated wondering whether Small Budget films can be made even like this! Though he got the ‘vulgar’ stamp with the film Bus Stop, he set a new trend of Comedy Horror films with Prema Kadha Chitram. But the director struck gold with directing Bhale Bhale Magadivoy which became a massive hit this year. Maruthi is celebrating his birthday today and on that account, here is an exclusive chit chat with him:
Hello Maruthi garu.. Happy Birthday!
Thanks a lot!
How do you usually celebrate your birthdays?
I don’t like to celebrate my birthday as a special event usually but this time Bhale Bhale Magadivoy(BBM)’s success made me very happy and feel special.
What do you think is the best aspect of BBM’s success?
The stupendous returns of BBM outside India astonished me so much. I really didn’t expect such warm reception for the film there.
There is a buzz that you took BBM with a style different from your usual films- which rely on vulgar comedy?
To be honest, the content in BBM is my usual style. All my previous attempts were made in determination to show my presence in the industry.
What is one thing in your mind when making a new film?
I prefer to surprise audiences with my every film. It shouldn’t get predictable at any point of time. Prema Kadha Chitram and BBM were such attempts which became great hits.
BBM is made with a unique concept. Did you get ample support from film fraternity for it when you began it?
Well, I narrated the story to Chiranjeevi and he really appreciated it. He also said he liked Prema Kadha Chitram a lot. It was a great confidence booster for me to go ahead with the project.
What is your motive to work as a successful producer?
I always supported young and enthusiastic filmmakers but now want to make better films myself.
Do you have any regrets in your film career till date?
I am quite happy with my directing and production career till now. I did everything I can do come for such stage. As of now, my focus is only to keep up this valuable stage.
Why do you think a novel idea like BBM worked so well for class and masses equally?
There is a certain level of magic in the hero’s role. The concept itself is unique and fun filled. I think that is why it worked so well. Even heroes like Gopichand, Ram Charan and Mahesh appreciated the film which made me very happy.
How do you define your biggest strength?
Comedy is my biggest strength and I would always see to that it is not missed.
You had good support from Mega family and did two good films in Geetha Arts. How do you feel about it?
Mega Family has been always supportive of my work and had faith in me. Bunny in particular is a good friend of mine and had great confidence in my abilities.
Upcoming projects?
I have three scripts ready as of now. I am already working on one film and will be announcing it very shortly.
How was the working experience with Nani?
Nani is a wonderful actor. This role in BBM is a tailor made one for him. He was the first and last choice for me to cast in such quirky character.
What about the female lead Lavanya Tripathi?
She is a director’s actress and very happy go lucky in real life. That was why she could play the role with such confidence and ease.
Okay.. thanks and wish you all the best for future projects!
Thank you!
