It is a well known fact that the original version of Drushyam in Malayalam had Kerala Superstar Mohanlal in the lead role. The film was a blockbuster in Malayalam and its universal appeal made it a first hand choice for remake in not only other South Indian languages but also in Hindi. While Venky reprised the role of Mohanlal in Telugu Drushyam, it is Kamal Hassan who did the same in Tamil version Papanasam. This film was released recently and became a brilliant hit. On that ocassion, Kamal took a moment to thank the Malayalam Superstar with all his admiration and humility!
Kamal thanked Mohanlal for recommending his name to director Jeetu Joseph to star in this rare film. He also said that such films come in Indian Cinema quite rarely and it is a treat for an actor to perform in such challening role.
