When you take a pen and paper, you can scribble just about anything that comes to your head and you might end up creating a good story out of it. But then, if you want to take it a step further and try to make it into a film then the real deal begins. Writing on paper and painting on screen are two entirely different things.
You can write a story very well on paper but you may not be able to conceive it rightly onscreen. In the recent past, we have seen few writers making it into direction and it must be said that not many have been successful. The logic is clear, writing and filmmaking are two different verticals.
It doesn’t mean that every writer can become a wonderful director. Making a movie is like painting a picture. It is not just about the creative aspect. You also need to be seasoned enough to know the production process and how the financials ought to be worked out. Well, hope the difference is realized in the right manner.
