A very common statement that you tend to hear about Indian movies is they find their inspiration from Hollywood and sometimes from the Korean movies. But has it ever occurred to you that even Hollywood is also copying stuff from us and that too Tollywood?
At least this is the point the iconic actor Kamal Haasan has put across in a recent media interaction. According to Kamal, the masterpiece Oscar winner Forrest Gump starring Tom Hanks was reportedly inspired from Kamal’s Swathi Muthyam, can you believe that?
After hearing this, many cine buffs have put up questions like what is the similarity and is it practically possible. Well, the only inspiration seems to be the characterization of Tom in the movie. But then, prior to Swathi Muthyam, many movies came with that type of innocent protagonists. In Bollywood, most of Raj Kapoor’s movies came like that. So, the conclusion from many is, it is not necessary for Tom to copy Swathi Muthyam out of nowhere to make his Forrest Gump.
