Editor: Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao
Performances:
Nani: He was an absolute treat to watch as an over ambitious materialistic person named ‘Subramanyam’. His character by default carries humor and Nani just added his touch to the character and made it absolute fun to watch.
Vijay Devarakonda: This newcomer has done a fab job as ‘Rishi’. His characterization is insightful, interesting and absolute delight to watch. Vijay has just proved his mettle with this film.
Malavika Nair: This Mallu girl is cute and her act was a delight to watch. If you expect a typical Telugu commercial heroine, we should say you will definitely be disappointed.
Ritu Varma: Though she has miniscule role to play, Ritu was apt for the role.
Krishnam Raju: The senior actor played a shot yet pivotal role in the film.
The rest of the cast including Nassar, Kiriti Damaraju and others did a decent job.
Direction:
Yevade Subramanyam is not a first of its kind story but indeed a cool, cute and sensible one – due credit goes to debutant director Nag Ashwin. He managed to have interesting characterization, an engaging narration with situational comedy, cute and candid moments to smile, laugh and above all a purposeful and enlightening journey to the Himalayas. The director was smart enough in establishing his characters and later the mission of the lead characters. He has knit a story around Himalayas and could narrate the story with a decent blend of love, friendship, fun and philosophy too.
First Half: Nani’s ‘Subramanyam’ character takes you into the story while Rishi brings in more kinetic energy to the story. Aanandi joins the mad fun and eventually sets in the actual mission of the story. The performances of Nani, Vijay are the assets of this segment.
Interval Bang: The intermission break is rather unexpected yet arrives the right moment.
Second Half: This segment is relatively sluggish and the performances of Nani and Malavika keep you engaged. The climax is rather predictable.
Merits:
- The performances of Nani, Malavika and Vijay.
- Scenes are refreshing with funny dialogues.
- Engaging narration, especially in the first half.
- Decent Music and cinematography.
Demerits:
- Sluggish narration in the second half.
- The lack of regular commercial entertainment might disappoint a section of audience.
Music:
Rathan’s tunes were versatile catering to the needs of the story but his background score was commendable especially in some key scenes in the second half where the visual has a limited effect.
Others:
The art direction department needs a special tap for the exotic locales in the Himalayas.
Verdict:
Yevade Subramanyam is a sweet, sensible and insightful film that you can undoubtedly go watch it with your family and enjoy. If you are looking for drift from the regular commercial entertainment, this Subramanyam is the man for you!
