There is a general fundamental that many filmmakers in Tollywood believe strongly. According to them ‘Higher the budget, more the output and quality in film giving higher chance for success’. But there is a stark difference in ideology between Tollywood and Kollywood in this matter.
The Tamil circles strongly believe in content and closer to reality subjects. Economics takes a second priority for them. This is how some of their shoestring budget flicks broke box office records. Some of the best examples for that are Pizza, Mayakkam Enna, Engaeyum Eppothum.
Now, another small film from Tamil is shocking the entire industry. It is Velai Illa Pattadhari starring Dhanush. This was made at a budget of Rs 5 crores and official reports from Chennai reveal it has touched Rs 80 crores which is 16 times more than the investment. Can something like that be achieved in Tollywood? Just a thought…
