Senior directors Gunasekhar and YVS Chowdary have been friends from a long time and have grown in the film industry together. The careers of both these directors were progressing at the same pace and marching in the same direction. It’s been a long time since they have delivered a solid hit and are currently investing everything they have [time and money] on their dream projects. Both the directors have reached the point in their career where a marginal error can break their careers…
Gunasekhar had been a first choice for the star heroes a decade back. Started his career with some award winning films like Raamayanam and Sogasu Chooda Tharamaa, Gunasekhar went on to give some blockbuster hits like Choodalani Undi and Okkadu. After that, he has been a failure in whatever he did with losing ventures like Arjun, Sainikudu, Varudu, Nippu, etc. Currently, Gunasekhar has managed to start a magnum opus project Rudramadevi with Anushka and Rana in the lead roles. With a budget of over 40 crores, this will be a litmus test for Gunasekhar and his talent. Adding to this, he is the producer for this huge project and all his earnings are at stake and is completely dependent on Rudhramadevi’s success!
On the other hand, YVS Chowdary is currently producing/directing a 30+ crore film Rey with mega family hero Sai Dharam Tej. Though YVS had given some super hits like Devadas and Lahiri Lahiri Lo in the past, he is currently in the worst phase of his career with continuous flops like Okka Magadu and Saleem. Rey has been in the production since a couple of years and it looks like a do or die situation for YVS too. Unless the film gets some stunning openings and a good talk, it’s very difficult for the director to recover the costs…
Let’s wish both these director friends all the best and wish that their upcoming projects will be hitting the bull’s-eye!
