Masala is an upcoming multi starrer film featuring Victory Venkatesh and Ram in the lead roles. Anjali and Shazahn Padamsee are the female leads. The film is a remake of Bollywood hit Bol Bachchan and is directed by Vijaya Bhaskar. The music is composed by S.S Thaman and here is an exclusive review of the album:
The album begins with a high energetic melody track Ninnu Choodani. Shreya Ghoshal and Ranjith make it a beautiful duet with their confident voices and the rhythm progressions add energy to the track. The mandolin solo bit in the second interlude is a special attraction to the song.
Kotlallo Okkadai is an aggressive track with local drum beats complemented well with Shankar Mahadevan’s brilliant voice. The trumpets follow religiously and the percussions are skillfully used. The track would sure strike the chord for masses.
The energy is continued with feel good melody with the next track Meenakshi Meenakshi. Suchith Suresan and Mansi sang this song and their fresh voices give the song a new look. The djembe percussion makes it an interesting one.
The next track Acharey Acharey arrives in a jiffy with Ranjith and Bindu in playback. However, the track is little too fast in pace to catch up with but the singers take the song forward with vigor. But the song transforms in the second interlude with a superimposition of flutes and some fun moments.
Masala Remix is the last track in the album with lot of rightly used energy and enjoyable rhythm. The lyrics are hip hop styled with Telugu add-ons.
Verdict:
Masala is a fairly decent album from Thaman with a blend of melodies and fast paced numbers. Thaman seems to be experimenting with his own style and evolving from the loud composer tag to a different composer! Good lyrics by Ramajogayya Sastry, apt choice of singers for each track makes it a good hearing.
