Yuvan Shankar Raja is one of the very few quality music composers we have in South India today. The younger son of Musical Maestro Ilaiyaraaja, Yuvan chose to create his own trend with respect to music composing. His unique style of music composing, and his occasional singing earned many young fans all over South India.
Yuvan was noticed initially in Telugu with the film 7/G Brundavan Colony. The songs in the film had peculiar aura which were instantly likeable. Especially the songs “Kannula Baasalu” and “Talachi Talachi Chusthe” made the audience feel that Yuvan is an upcoming musical talent to look for in Tollywood. The next notable album from Yuvan was Allu Arjun starrer Happy released in 2006. This album was termed as one of the best in that year for the raciness as well as youthful nature it offered. Yuvan started getting good offers in Telugu from then and he scored well commercially as well as musically in films like Aadavari Maatalaku Ardhale Verule, Raju Bhai, Oye, Panjaa etc., Apart from his straight Telugu films, Yuvan’s films are dubbed from Tamil and the audio for those also became good hits. One of the best aspects of his music is that- they are instantly likeable and at the same time do not compromise on the musical value.
Though, Yuvan scores essentially in Tamil Cinema, his contribution to Telugu Cinema as a music composer is worth mentioning. He is a singer as well, with peculiar voice and the song “Nee Yedhalo Naaku Chotu” from Awaara (Dubbed from Tamil Original Paiyya) became one of the top songs in the year 2010. Yuvan also frequently sings for his dad’s albums, recently he did for Yeto Vellipoyindhi Manasu which got him good name as a singer with a different style. He is an active performer who does shows internationally throughout the year.
