Our filmmakers seem to be in deep love with the popular serial killer Charles Sobhraj [born Hotchand Bhaonani Gurumukh Charles Sobhraj]. Having inspired from episodes of his life, some are reportedly busy cooking bio epics while some are picking storylines from his real life crime episodes. As an old jungle saying rightly says “Bad spreads like wildfire”, one is naturally seduced by the evil and some filmmakers are usually vulnerable to such seductions!
Well peeping into the story, so far two films have been announced that claim to have inspired from Sobhraj’s life. One being based on Farrukh Dhondy's book The Bikini Murders (a book based on the life and crimes of Sobhraj) that would be produced by DAR Motion Pictures and directed by the dark horse Anurag Kashyap. While the other one being produced by Pooja Bhatt, directed by Prawal Raman [the maker of thriller 404], wherein Randeep Hooda would be essaying the role of Sobhraj. But the latter makers Pooja and Prawal Ram proclaim that their film isn’t a biopic but indeed a story loosely based on Sobhraj’s shrewd prison break from Tihar jail in 1986.
However, all the crime lovers…upss sorry…crime genre lovers are going to enjoy a scrumptious crime recipe very soon. While on the flip side, has Sobhraj who is known for charging lumps for his interviews, movies and documentaries based on him, has got an ear on this? [Well Sobhraj, we are not responsible for any cues!]
