Bollywood Superstar Sanjay Dutt is sentenced to five years jail by the Supreme Court of India, for possessing illegal weapons [an AK- 56 rifle and a 9 mm pistol], that were allegedly smuggled along with consignments of arms before the 1993 Mumbai Bomb blasts [the terrible terrorist attack that caused the death of 257 people and injured 713]. Now, he has got 4 weeks to surrender to serve his rest of the three and half year jail term [as he already spent 18 months initially.] Apart from himself, his family and his lawyer, it is Bollywood which is lot more bothered about him. Not definitely the brimming affection over him. Then what?

Well, obviously because it has apparently invested about Rs. 290 crores on this 50yr old rockstar, who threw promising signals from a while proclaiming his paradigm shift from the ‘Bollywood bad boy’ image to the most ideal and lovable family man letting off the bygones. From being an adamant adult carrying alleged links with mafia [the ‘D’ gang], he has now quit drugs, smoking and has been even reporting on time to shootings from a while. What a change! Of course Change is inevitable because it’s the ‘Manyatha Magic’. But it is an open secret that Bollywood and underworld were as thick as thieves! It is an unarguable fact that many could become heroes and many could rule the Bollywood ring only because of the mafia support. Only, after the government recognized cinema as an industry allowing bank funding, the earlier trend of mafia involvement in the movie production was slackened.

Now, even a tot can lecture on this issue [Thanks to the enough number of movies made on this so far Satya, Company, D company, Once Upon a time in Mumbai et al]. He even preached ‘Gandhigiri’ with his successful ‘Munnabhai’ series. But with the latest verdict on him, “heartbroken” Sanju bhai has been receiving tons of sympathy and an avalanche of support on the social networking platforms. His lawyers and family have been “preparing for this” from a while and he should have known this from long. But the most ironical question that springs up here is that ‘how many can actually learn the gist of his story and how many would empathize with the victims?’ sounds idealistic but as a famous Telugu dialogue says “Chattam thana pani thanu chesuku pothundi” [Law functions as it ought to] and shouldn’t we be glad that it is functioning this way at least? But worry not…this is a tar-baby issue and nothing changes here, neither cinema nor mafia except for more films to come on this! Until unless the bigger issues are addressed, Sanjay Dutt’s arrest is just waving the dead chicken.
