Krishna Kumari got a good chance yet again from the same banner which earlier featured her in Bharya Bhartalu as a female lead with various shades such as confrontation, and sympathy. Instead of just being confined to just glamour, she could perform par excellence and become an important part of the storyline as well. This film showed the real visuals of Visakhapatnam and it is interesting to note that popular lyricist Dr.C.Narayana Reddy wrote a song for ANR for the first time in Telugu Cinema .
Story Details:
Bhushayya (Gummadi) is an affluent person in a village and his son Ravi (ANR) studies in Vishakhapatnam. Ravi falls in love with Saroja (Krishna Kumari) a fellow student who plays the role of Shakuntala in a college cultural stage drama. Saroja’s mother (G.Varalakshmi) gets cheated in the hands of Chalapathi (Mikkilineni). In one situation, Chalapathi tries to steal a chain from his own daughter and when the latter realizes it is her father, he moves away. However, Bhushayya doesn’t agree for Ravi to marry Saroja- who is cultured and sensible. He says that Ravi cannot marry a woman who doesn’t have a caste or gotra. But Ravi goes against his father and marries Saroja in a temple. Ravi becomes a police officer and in one situation he happens to arrest his own brother in law (Relangi) in a gambling case. Meanwhile, Ravi’s mother dies out of the separation. As a result, Bhushayya changes. Ravi and Saroja are blessed with a son and Bhushayya gets eager to see his grandson. He meets his grandson and even gives me a gold chain as gift. Meanwhile Saroja’s father Chalapathi becomes even more vicious. He attempts a theft in Bhushayya and gets arrested in the hands of Ravi. The film ends on a happy note when Bhushayya realizes that it is not caste or gotra which is important, but good heart (Hence the name Kula Gotralu)
Performances:
ANR is excellent in the hero role Ravi. He shares a wonderful chemistry with his co-star Krishna Kumari and looks very handsome in songs. His portrayal as the sincere police officer is greatly done. Krishna Kumari played the role of a woman with substance and she carries it with dignity and poise. Gummadi is decent as the father of hero. Mikkilineni and Relangi are adequate in their respective roles.
Technical Aspects:
Athreya’s dialogues are thought provoking and heart touching right from the beginning till the end. His lines make the audience think about human values and the social system. S.Rajeshwara Rao’s melodious music is another asset for this entertainer. While songs like ‘Cheli Kaadu Ninne Rammani Piluva’,’Chilipi Kannula Teeyani Chelikada’, ‘Nee Nallani Jedalo Puvvulu’, ‘Vinuma Priyatama Naa Viraha Geethi’ were admired by every Telugu person, the all time gambling themed song ‘Ayyayo Chetilo Dabbulu Poyene’ became an evergreen song. Pratyagatma’s direction is crisp and exemplary.
