Preminchukundam Raa is one of the very first films in Telugu Cinema which showcased a love story in the backdrop of Rayalaseema Region of Andhra Pradesh. The film paved way for many such stories to come even till date. Wonderful songs, fresh performances and great direction made the film most memorable and it gave a great boost to Venkatesh as a youthful hero.
Story Details:
Giri (Venkatesh) is a happy go lucky Hyderabadi college student who visits his sister’s family who reside in Kurnool belonging to Rayalaseema region. His brother in law (Chandramohan) is a peculiar person who is over obsessed with cleanliness all the time. Giri has two nephews and a niece who is quite clever and speak more than their age. It is when Giri notices Kaveri (Anjala Jhaveri) a beautiful yet plain looking girl. Giri instantly loves Kaveri and after some funny interactions, Kaveri reciprocates. But the story takes a serious turn when Giri comes to know about Kaveri’s real background. She belongs to Rayalaseema area and her father (Jayaprakash Narayan) is a factionist. Rest of the story is about how Giri and Kaveri confront their difficulties to get united.
Performances:
Venkatesh is great as always in the Hyderabadi youngster role. His fun nature and comedy timing is a huge asset for a film like this. He looks brilliant as ever in songs. Debutant Anjala Zaveri is adorable as the female lead and looks ultra glamorous in the song appearances. Her acting skills made sure the film doesn’t fall out. Sudha is good as the sister of Venkatesh and Chandramohan is hilarious as Venkatesh’s brother in law. Anand Vardhan is good as the nephew of Venkatesh. However, it is Jayaprakash Narayan who got a great break as a performing actor in the role of an angry factionist. Babu Mohan, Uttej, Srihari, Venu Madhav, Annapuna and so on are seen in remaining roles.
Technical Aspects:
Story by Deenraj is fresh and captivating. Dialogues by Paruchuri Brothers are wonderful for a love story of this sort. Cinematography by Raveendra Reddy gives the film a great look especially in songs. Music by Mahesh is another huge asset and the songs became instant hits. Ala Choodu, Meghale Taakindhi, Surya Kireetame, Pelli kala vacchesindhe and so on became chartbusters. Direction by debutant Jayanth C Paranjee is another huge asset as every frame speaks of freshness and youthfulness.
