Though Shiva was a huge breakthrough for Ram Gopal Varma as a director in Telugu Cinema, it was with Kshana Kshanam he proved to be a director of class and worth in much more stronger fashion. The film is like a feast for adventure lovers and is always on the go. It was great to see Venkatesh to act in a mellowed down role compared to the female lead Sridevi over which the complete story is based on.
Story Details:
The story revolves around a huge sum of money which has been robbed by a group planned by their leader (Paresh Rawal) and its journey in peculiar circumstances. One of the persons in the group try to snatch away the money and when it doesn’t happen, he keeps the money in a safe at Railway Cloak Room and gets a receipt of the same. When the villains chase him around he is left with no choice but to keep this receipt in a passport cover at a photo studio. The passport cover belongs to none other than our protagonist Satya (Sridevi) who is a laid back person with a tinge of innocence and jitteriness. Things turn serious when the goons question Satya about the whereabouts of the money which she is unaware of and she has to run for life. It is at this time she meets Chandu (Venkatesh) , a petty thief who lives a cool life. They both happen to escape the police and the goons and get stuck in a forest.
Rest of the story goes with excellent pace on how the lead roles understand why police and goons are behind them and how they solve the problem.
Performances:
Venkatesh was excellent as the petty thief but has a degree of coolness in his attitude which makes him so adorable. Especially when his female protagonist Sridevi is so vivacious and emotional, it was Venkatesh who could do best justice in playing a mellowing down character so perfectly. Sridevi is amazing as the female lead and she looks ravishing in the songs. Her perfection in expressions and ease in body language made her the ideal choice for the role of Satya. Paresh Rawal is brilliant as the villain with a tinge of Comedy. Brahmanandam plays a funniest role of a salesman who is over obsessive with cleanliness. Rami Reddy and Narsing managed to get crucial roles in the film as well.
Technical Aspects:
The dialogues and the direction was done by Ram Gopal Varma himself and he excels in both. The dialogues are minimal yet make a tremendous impact on the audience. Cinematography by S.Gopala Reddy is another asset for a movie like this involving chasing sequences and lot of camera movements. Ram Gopal Varma- a pioneer is using camera differently makes best use of it. Music by Keeravani is a strong foundation for the film- he delivered par excellence in re-recording and songs for the film Every song in the film became a block buster- Jaamurathiri, Jumbare, Andanantha Ettha, Ko ante Koti, Ammayi Muddu Ivandhe. The production values are decent enough for an adventure film like this.
