Sampoorna Ramyanam story at a glance
Sampoorna Ramayanam is another perfect example in SVR’s career as a brilliant actor for mythological films. While he already acted as Ravana in ‘Veeranjaneya’, SVR showed lot of versatility and uniqueness in this version. With thunderous body language and histrionics, storm like conversations, and striking looks, SVR gave life to the role of Ravana with his Lion-Like gait and showed the current era about the brilliant character of Ravana.
Story Details:
The storyline in this film deals with the Ramayana Epic which starts with Lord Rama’s birth in this World and his journey till he wages a war with the Evil Ravana who kidnaps his wife. The journey is beautiful with lot of good and saddening moments such as Lord Rama’s exile to Forest on the day of his crowning as the king of Ayodhya. Ramayana is a greatest epic which was retold by Telugu Cinema any number of times with great ease.
Lord Rama (Sobhan Babu) is the human incarnation of Lord Vishnu who idealized the life of a human being and showed the people of World how to live on principles and great values. Ravana(SVR) is exact opposite of Lord Rama. Despite being a devotee of Lord Shiva, highly knowledgeable and invincible, Ravana makes a mistake of kidnapping Seetha (Chandrakala)- the incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi in a bad intention of winning her. As a result, he welcomes his own destruction by troubling the powerful Seetha. Ravana loses his family, siblings, and people of his kingdom during the war he wages with Lord Rama. He even dies by the end of the war.
Performances:
Sobhan Babu is decent as the lead role Lord Rama with good histrionics, body language and dialogue delivery. His appearance in Lord Rama attire is really made well by the artistic Bapu. Chandrakala is good as Seetha and her role demands lot of shades in performance. She pulls it off with tremendous ease and dignity. SVR is brilliant as the multifaceted Ravana who has so many shades such as Evil, Greed, Passion and Love for Music as well. Nagaraju is alright as Lakshmana, the brother of Lord Rama. Pandaribai gives a memorable performance as Sabari- the senile devotee of Lord Rama. Jamuna gives a fantastic performance as Kaikeyi, who is the reason for Lord Rama’s exile. Gummadi is perfect as the ideal father Dasaradha. Satyanarayana, Chandramohan, Krishnakumari and so on are good in their respective roles.
Technical Aspects:
It is said that the popular poet Vishwanatha Satyanarayana who said he would watch the film only for ten minutes continued to watch it till the end and showered praises on the cast and crew of the film. Mullapudi’s dialogues for an Epic of this sort act as a lifeline and Music is another important pillar for the success of it. K.V.Mahadevan’s music was given a new life with brilliant lyrics by Devulapalli (‘Ramalaali’, ‘Oorike Kolani Neeru’) and Kosaraju (‘Ramayya Thandri’). Bapu’s artistic angle is evident in every frame of the film who added color, magic and his artist angle for every character shown in the film.
