Sakshi story at a glance

Telugu Readers are well versed with the combination of Bapu and Ramana in Literary World. Their long term literary association marked new film beginnings with their first feature film Sakshi. The film featured Bapu as director for the first time and became a memorable film for Krishna not only professionally but also personally. The film featured Krishna and Vijayanirmala as a pair for the first time and helped them become a couple in personal life as well. It was shot completely in outdoor in less span of time and was featured in Tashkent international film festival. Rangarao, who got introduced with this film became Sakshi Ranga Rao since then for his memorable performance.

Story Details:
The film is in a backdrop of a remote village in Godavari district. Munasabu (Vinnakota Ramanna Panthulu) and Karanam (Sakshi Rangarao) dominate over the village. But they fear a Fakir (Kongara Jagga Rao), a drunk truck driver. Fakir is a very serious gentleman who would go for a bloodthirsty fight even for a small issue. Fakir is extremely fond of his sister Radha (Vijayanirmala) though he doesn’t care for the World. He respects her a lot and fears her anger. A boatman Kishtappa (Krishna) falls for Radha. With Fakir’s increasing wrongdoings, the elders in the village think of framing him. It is at this juncture Fakir murders a person. Kishtappa is the sole witness of the crime and the villagers request him to tell the witness in court by taking him to the town. Kishtappa presents himself as the witness and Fakir is found guilty of the crime. Fakir threatens Kishtappa that he would come back and kill the latter. Right to the word Fakir escapes from jail and the news spreads the village. Nobody arrives for Kishtappa’s rescue. Radha rescues a starved and weak Kishtappa and she decides to marry him in the hope that, if that happens her brother would spare him.  Radha marries Kishtappa one night and Fakir rightfully arrives to fight with the latter. In the fight, Fakir gets killed. The villagers praise Kishtappa as a hero for killing Fakir. The film ends with Kishtappa and Radha leaving the village.

Performances:
Krishna is extremely believable as the boatman Kishtappa. His histrionics and body language was made at best use by Bapu. Vijayanirmala shares a great chemistry with Krishna onscreen. Sakshi Ranga Rao gives a fantastic performance for a debutant.  Kongara Jagga Rao gets a memorable role as Fakir in the film. Vinnakota Ramanna Panthulu is adequate in the role of Munasabu.

Technical Aspects:
Mullapudi Ramana’s dialogues are novel and fresh for a theme of this sort. The one liners and fantastic dialogues which relate to real life became a specialty of his style. K.V.Mahadevan’s re-recording and songs became a huge asset for the film.  Ammakadupu Challaga and Evariki Vaare Ee Lokam became all time hits. Bapu does an artistic job in making the film a masterpiece.
