Nippuravva is a different styled film for Balakrishna where he was featured sans glamour and lot of scope to perform. It is interesting to know that A.R.Rahman scored background music for this film. Though it was not commercially successful, the film would remain to be one of the experimental films in Balakrishna’s career.
Story Details:
Suryam (Balakrishna) is a courageous worker in Coal mines and he doesn’t restrain himself from helping people around and questioning the injustice which happens around. His family consists of mother (Sujatha) and sister (Kasthuri). The film begins with Suryam getting imprisonment for 7 years on charge of a murder but he escapes from the prison. He kidnaps a Police Officer’s (Lakshmi) sister (Vijayashanthi).
Performances:
Balakrishna is brilliant as the fearless worker from coal mines. This sort of role was unheard in Telugu Cinema until he ventured in it. Especially the coal rescue scene became one of the defining scenes. Vijayashanthi is bubbly and adorable as the female lead. Lakshmi gives a great performance as the Police Officer. Amrish Puri is menacing as the minister who does trouble always. Geetha is wonderful as the Lawyer. Kasthuri gets a memorable in the film as well.
Technical Aspects:
Dialogues, Story and Screenplay were written by Paruchuri Brothers . They do a brilliant job in all of those departments. Background score works wonders with A.R.Rahman composing it. Music has been done by Bappi Lahari and Raj-Koti which is decent. Direction by Kondandarami reddy has good blend of commercial and technical values. Rest of the film is about the reason why Suryam commits a murder and what is the rift he has with the labor minister (Amrish Puri).
